Paramedics were sent to the 40-year-old Brown's home in South Baltimore after he was found in an unresponsive state, police said.An autopsy to determine the cause of death was pending, the Baltimore Sun said Saturday.Brown, who was nicknamed "Zeus" during his playing days, started 80 games for the Ravens in a career that began when he was picked up as a free-agent rookie by the Cleveland Browns in 1993. He had two stints with Baltimore from 1996-1998 and 2003-2005."My first image of the NFL was when I first saw Zeus," recalled Ravens linebacker Jarret Jackson "I thought, 'They are sure a lot bigger here.'"
Jackson said Brown, who stood 6-feet-7 and weighed around 370 pounds, was his idea of what embodied what the Ravens and the NFL stood for. "His willingness to battle along with you, the way he stood up for his teammates, was special," Jackson said.Many fans probably knew Brown more for an instance in 1999 when shoved a referee after being accidentally hit in the eye by the official's penalty flag. The incident led to Brown's suspension and his filing of a lawsuit against the league for allegedly damaging his career.After his retirement, Brown became a franchisee of the Fatburger chain, and also battled his ex-wife for custody of a daughter. He was charged in 2009 with breaking into her home.
