Shaun Suisham kicks Pittsburgh Steelers to 23-20 victory

During the final moments of a tight game Sunday night, Pittsburgh relied on its old standbys.Troy Polamalu and Ben Roethlisberger.Polamalu returned a fumble 16 yards to give Pittsburgh the lead, and Roethlisberger drove the Steelers 60 yards to set up Shaun Suisham for a 38-yard field goal with 4 seconds left that sent the Steelers to a 23-20 victory at Indianapolis."Our defense, they're fun to watch," Roethlisberger said. "They make exciting plays when they need to, and they're on my side."One strong final burst was enough after the Steelers looked out of sorts for the first 54 minutes.Roethlisberger lost two fumbles and threw an interception during an 11-minute first-half stretch. Pittsburgh (2-1) managed just 67 yards rushing all night, and the vaunted Steelers defense produced just one sack.
Polamalu, Roethlisberger and James Harrison bailed them out. Again.
Harrison's crunching sack of Curtis Painter with 5:13 left knocked the ball out and the opportunistic Polamalu scooped it up and jogged into the end zone to make it 20-13. After the Colts tied it with 2:09 left, Roethlisberger delivered another one of his patented late drives, setting up Suisham for the winning kick.
Roethlisberger was 25 of 37 for 364 yards with one touchdown. Mike Wallace caught five passes for 144 yards and an 81-yard score, the longest of his career.
And they won ugly.
"We don't care how it looks," coach Mike Tomlin said. "We just want to get out of stadiums with wins, particularly road stadiums and AFC ones."
Sunday's game wasn't supposed to be so difficult for the defending AFC champs.
But Indianapolis (0-3), which has won 16 Sunday night games since 2000 — more than any other team, used the national stage to send a message. They're not going away quickly or quietly, even with Peyton Manning out.The Colts defense had three sacks, forced three turnovers, delivered a plethora of big hits and even scored Indy's first first-half touchdown of the season.It just wasn't enough.

ACT scores creeping up in math, science:The results of ACT tests taken by Fort Morgan 11th-graders last school year were up slightly compared to the previous year, according to results released by the Fort Morgan School District.The students who will graduate this spring scored .2 of a point above last year's seniors on the test, which is first taken during the junior year of high school, in both English and math and .1 higher in reading and science.Math was the highest score in this year's ACT results, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Assessment Joy Perry said, indicating that could be seen as a result of the emphasis on math instruction at the high school. Fort Morgan students averaged 17.9 points on the math portion. The state average for math was 20.4.English was lowest-scoring section on average for Fort Morgan students. This was also the subject on which the local students were the furthest behind the state average, with Fort Morgan averaging 16.1 points and the statewide average being 20.1 points.
But Fort Morgan students averaged 17.7 points or reading, compared to the state average of 20.9 points. While up from the previous years, the reading scores seem to be trending down overall, as average scores above 18 points were common for the seven years before that.Science was another area that saw a minor improvement last year after a significant decline in scores. This year, the state average was 20.7 on the science portion of the ACT. The most recent local scores averaged 17.9 points to 2010's 17.8-point average. But for nearly all of the eight years before that, scores were averaging above 18 points.
Composite score averages were statistically the same between the classes of 2011 and 2010, according to results released by the district, sitting at 17.5 points.
However, those numbers may be slightly deceiving due to changes in the type of data reported to the state and included in the statistics, according to Perry.
Perry told the Fort Morgan Board of Education that "no scores" from students who didn't test weren't factored into 2011 results, but they had been in 2010.
Board member Rob Carruth worried that because of the change the data wasn't correct in its analysis of scores being slightly up."We're not really comparing apples to apples," he said. "2011 is kind of a new baseline."Perry said that was true in a way, but that the board shouldn't discount the students' performance on the test.Just as Fort Morgan results were similar over the two years and not radically different, State performance was also stable in all tested areas, Perry said.Perry also told the board about some other statistical differences in the data, including the gap in results between white and Hispanic test-takers.
Overall, Hispanic students taking the ACT last year scored an average of 3.9 points below their white classmates.Perry also released data on scores from students re-taking the ACT exam last year.
That gap was higher than the two years before but lower than results from three and four years ago.
"We're right around average with the state," she said. "There's not really any dramatic news here."

Burnett will be called upon quite heavily this season after the loss of All-Pro Nick Collins. So far, the early returns on last season's third-round draft selection are promising.In fact, all of Green Bay's pass defense could be considered "adequate" after two weeks squarely in the "bad" category of this column. Cutler completed 21 of 37 passes for 302 yards and two touchdowns, but his two interceptions killed Chicago's momentum.Greg Jennings caught just about everything thrown his way and set the pace with four catches for 61 yards during Green Bay's first drive which was capped off by a 6-yard scoring strike to Jermichael Finley. On Sunday, Finley got the fantasy football glory with three touchdowns but it was Jennings who did the dirty work, catching nine passes for 119 yards.Speaking of Finley, his seven catches for 85 yards and three touchdowns illustrate the impossibility for other teams to cover him consistently. Finley has all the size and strength of an elite tight end with better speed. His presence creates mismatch problems all over the field, which Rodgers knows how to exploit. As the Packers approach the quarter-pole of the season next week, Finley is fifth in receiving yardage among tight ends, and tied for third in touchdown receptions."His best ball is still in front of him," Rodgers said. "He's a big-time player and incredible athlete."

In their dreams, the St. Louis Rams' secondary will be chasing the rookie wide receiver who registered barely a blip on the scouting report.Smith caught long touchdown passes from Joe Flacco totaling 133 yards on his first three career receptions, a huge first half that sparked a franchise record-setting day on offense by the Baltimore Ravens in a 37-7 rout of the defenseless St. Louis Rams on Sunday.The Ravens drafted Torrey Smith out of Maryland in April in the hope that he could be a credible downfield target for Joe Flacco and open some room underneath for Anquan Boldin. When Smith struggled in the preseason, Baltimore moved quickly to acquire someone who could do that job better, picking up Lee Evans in a trade with Buffalo.(Bills defensive back Drayton Florence ripped the Evans trade on Twitter, moaning, “Are we trying to win now or later????” Now the Bills are 3-0.)
But when Evans (ankle) was ruled out of the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Rams, Smith was suddenly back in. He got his first start — and promptly took full advantage.On Baltimore’s second play from scrimmage, Smith ran under a pass from Flacco, made his first catch as a pro and raced 74 yards with it for a touchdown. His second catch was a 41-yard score. His third? An 18-yard touchdown.After the game, Smith said: “I’ve been playing football forever and I’ve been making plays forever. Having a game like this, it proves to other people that haven’t seen me play, it lets them know I can play.”It will be up to his teammates to get his head out of the clouds.

She claims to have a 99% success rate, yet there has never been a successful relationship depicted on her show. It is simply a fame whore skank fest.
She says she knows how to get a man, yet at 50, does not have one. She was in a relationship with a man she says she met through a matchmaker, although that seems contrived. She was engaged, then ended the relationship and shared the news via Twitter. How can you be an expert at something you fail at?Speaking of Twitter, this afternoon, during a sixty minute span, I saw 73 tweets stating they want her fired, and for other Bravo fans to stop watching in an attempt to send the message to Bravo that the show should be cancelled. They even went so far as to ask for a boycott of Andy Cohen’s show, Watch What Happens Live, which premiers tonight after Patti.If I saw 73 tweets, and I’m not much of a Twitter person, imagine how many there really were? If Patti were food, there would be a massive recall across the country to get her pulled off the shelves. I have never seen a blog or a tweet that showed any love for this woman. If we all can’t stand her, and we are Bravo’s audience, how much longer will she have a show?Bravo fans are intense. They watch their shows religiously, and take it all very seriously. When it comes to the Real Housewives, there are many different camps, particularly for the NYC cast, where you either love Jill Zarin, or hate her. You either worship Bethenny, or are Satan. I happen to be in the minority as I love Jill, and think Bethenny is just as bad as Patti.There are different camps on most of the shows, but when it comes to Millionaire Matchmaker, we are a united front. One large group, shouting out to anyone who will listen, we do not like Patti Stanger, or her ridiculous show, and we want it cancelled, as her having a show at all is offensive to us as reality television fans. I hope Bravo is taking notes.You can’t have a show about love when the star is unable to find it for herself, or anyone else. If I was a millionaire, and I was looking for love, I would never go to Patti Stanger. She is a hot mess and her staff looks like a joke. I would never give them my money, which makes sense since all the millionaires on her show get her services for free.On the episode tonight, one of the “millionaires” is the hypnotherapist that she uses on the show. She cannot get a real millionaire to come on her fake show so she needs to use people she uses on her show? Are we supposed to believe he is a millionaire? This show is ridiculous and should never have been made. Cancel it and we will forgive you Bravo.The time will come when she won’t be able to give her services away, and that will be the day her show is cancelled. Twitter might help that day come quicker. There is nothing appealing or charming about this woman. She is an embarrassment to women, and has all the horrible stereotypes that Jewish women are labeled with.I have met Patti Stanger, and she was a total bitch to me and my friends. She was quite tiny in person, and very pretty. To clarify, it was a couple of years ago, before she injected her face to hell and back, so I’m not sure how she looks now. She was really horrible and we walked away thinking she was nasty.

Peyton Hillis Ruled Out for Browns Game Against Dolphins

It started on Friday, when Peyton Hillis was sent home from Berea with an illness, ordered to get some rest and fluids. Apparently, the weekend didn’t do him any favors and he has been ruled out of today’s game against the Miami Dolphins. Hillis arrived at Cleveland Browns Stadium this morning and was seen milling about in shorts and a t-shirt. Adam Schefter reported this morning that he was suffering from strep throat and a fever but the Browns still believed he was going to play, despite his condition being contagious.The Browns will be without their biggest offensive piece today, as running back Peyton Hillis was deactivated with strep throat. Montario Hardesty will make his first NFL start in Hillis’ place against the Miami Dolphins.
Hillis showed up sick Friday at Browns headquarters and was sent home. He was listed as questionable on the injury report, and coach Pat Shurmur expected him to play.Hillis arrived at Cleveland Browns Stadium this morning, but a Plain Dealer photographer saw him get in his car and drive away before 11 a.m.
Hardesty took the repetitions with the first team Friday at practice. He has eight carries this season for 19 yards after missing his entire rookie season following knee surgery.“I definitely think I’m ready to play,” he said. “(I’ll) try to go out there and capitalize on opportunities. (It’s) professional sports, so I gotta always be ready to play and perform. I’m excited to get out there and play some football on Sunday.”Undrafted rookie Armond Smith is the only other active running back.Right tackle Tony Pashos (ankle) heads the other inactives. He warmed up before the game, but the team decided to give him another week before reinserting him in the starting lineup. Artis Hicks will start at right tackle, but likely rotate with Oniel Cousins as they have the first two games.The other Browns inactives are: quarterback Thaddeus Lewis, safety Eric Hagg (knee), linebacker Titus Brown (ankle), offensive lineman Steve Vallos and tight end Jordan Cameron.Hagg returned to practice Friday for the first time since having arthroscopic knee surgery in August.The Dolphins (0-2) will be without starting cornerback Vontae Davis (hamstring), who will be replaced by Nolan Carroll, who has struggled the first two weeks.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, officially questionable with a foot injury, will not play against the Chiefs.Gates did not practice on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.
The “questionable” designation literally means that the player’s availability is a 50-50 proposition. For Gates, it’s currently more like zero.
Gates missed six games last season due to injury. Before that, he had played four full seasons without missing a single game. Through the first seven years of his career, Gates played in all but three games.

The main event of UFC 135 tonight (Sept. 24, 2011) at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, featured one of the most highly anticipated light heavyweight match-ups in recent memory, as reigning division champion Jon Jones made his first title defense against number one contender Quinton Jackson.Jon Jones defended his light heavyweight title by putting Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in a choke hold and forcing the veteran to tap out Saturday night at UFC 135.The 24-year Jones relied on his quickness and long reach to get inside on Jackson and inflict damage. In the fourth round, Jones put a bleeding Jackson in a rear naked choke hold and Jackson signaled he was done. It was the first time Jackson has tapped out in his UFC career.
The fighters entered the bout in the midst of controversy. It started when Jackson accused Jones of sending a spy into his camp to steal his secrets, a charge that Jones vehemently denied.From there, the acrimony only escalated, with Jones and Jackson exchanging barbs up until it was time to brawl.In the other big fight of the night, welterweight Josh Koscheck knocked out UFC hall of famer Matt Hughes.
For UFC, this was a return to the city where the organization staged its first championship fight 18 years ago. A capacity crowd filled the Pepsi Center and was largely split in their loyalties to Jones and Jackson, who's known for his role as B.A. Baracus in the big-screen version of " The A-Team" almost as much as his MMA career.The charismatic Jackson put in the work to get ready for this fight, giving up burgers and relocating to the Mile High City to train in the altitude. That's how motivated he was to win back a title he once held.And while Jackson maintained Jones was the future of the sport, Jackson said he was the present.It didn't take Jones long to deny that notion. Jones opened up a cut above Jackson's right eye with an elbow in the third round and it was pretty much all over from there.Down the road, Jones will face Rashad Evans, who was taking in the fight from the seats.Evans knows Jones quite well _ and there's no love lost between them.He was friends and training partners with Jones before a falling out led to some bitter feelings.The low-key Jones beat Mauricio "Shogun" Rua last March to become the youngest title holder in UFC history. But he was facing probably the hardest puncher around in Jackson.However, Jackson didn't have much of a chance to get inside."He insulted me, saying I had no punching power," Jones said after the fight. "We got together and improved my striking."Koscheck wasn't even Hughes' intended opponent, becoming a late fill-in when Diego Sanchez broke his hand.This was Koscheck's first fight since last December when he had an orbital bone in his eye shattered in a title fight against Georges St. Pierre.Koscheck showed little signs of rust as he jumped on Hughes early. With a second remaining in the opening round, the referee stepped in and halted the fight."I just want to say thanks to Matt Hughes for taking this fight late in his career. He's a legend," Koscheck said. "I'm really proud to fight him."Koscheck was booed when he entered the ring partly because Hughes is so beloved. The 37-year-old Hughes is pondering calling it a career. But he's not quite ready.

It wasn’t so much loyalty being expressed as finality. If A&M considers itself an SEC school, then it will lug a four-game losing streak to the Cowboys perhaps into forever. Bowen Loftin told CBSSports.com on Saturday that the school’s move to the SEC will be done “shortly.”The Aggies were done shortly after blowing a 17-point halftime lead. They weren’t so much trying to impress the SEC as just trying to beat Oklahoma State. The Aggies blew a 14-point halftime lead in Stillwater last year, losing 38-35.

Va. -- Momentum is a fickle thing in college football. It shifted to West Virginia for about a minute. Now LSU has it back.In a stunning couple of seconds, West Virginia had closed a 13-point deficit to six, only to see it get back up to 13. It all started after Geno Smith connected with speedy receiver Tavon Austin for a 72-yard reception -- the longest play the LSU defense had given up all season. That led to a 1-yard touchdown run from Dustin Garrison.The crowd was rocking and back in the game. But they were silenced in a hurry, after Morris Claiborne returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. Just like that, LSU was back up 34-21, headed into the fourth quarter.
The Tigers have absolutely dominated on special teams tonight. That, and forcing three turnovers, have been the big difference in the game.

Modern Model of Prius C:Looks great, bring it onIn the past we’ve shown some spyshots of the supposed Toyota Prius C, the smaller city Prius. Unfortunately, the spy shots look a lot more like the current Prius than does the original concept version.However, that latest Prius commercial is still showing a more concept-like C, and it’s easily the best looking Prius.Sure, the commercial is a little weird, but the Prius C looks great, especially compared to the recent spyshots. In fact, the spy shots almost make me wonder whether it’s even worth it to build the Prius C. I’d say no if not for the possibility of a much smaller price tag.
Hopefully, Toyota is just playing some PR games and the Prius C shown in this commercial is the real deal. If not, make that C shown in this video the first Scion hybrid. It’s too good not to utilize.
